Three years ago Essex County Council established the first Local Authority Trading Company, Essex Cares, which took over the Equipment Service. Being a Trading Company freed it from some of the constraints of a local authority service and enabled it to combine the best of the public and private sectors. If you are an older person you may recall the Essex Cares Telecare presentations which I arranged for older people's clubs.

In November I attended a conference in Chelmsford for the Older People's Planning Group (OPPG), the planning groups for those with sensory disabilities and the planning group for those with physical disabilities.

Essex County Council spends £173 million on consultants
Figures have been uncovered that show Essex County Council spent £173 million on consultants and agency staff over the last three years. The figures were uncovered by a question from Liberal Democrat County Councillor David Kendall at a full council meeting.
