Ninefields' Residents Respond- Survey Report Back!
Thank you to everyone in Ninefields who took part in the recent survey of residents' views organised by Liberal Democrat campaigner, Phil Chadburn.
"Many of you took the opportunity to give us your views on local issues, including crime, parking and the environment," said Phil. "It has been very helpful. I and the Liberal Democrat team have taken up many issues as a result."
CRIME
Waltham Abbey is the first town in Epping Forest to have a Neighbourhood Police Team. This was launched on 13 February 2006. The aim to make police more accessible to the public.
Contact can be made direct to the neighbourhood policing officers by calling a mobile phone number 07715 771 603. This is available 24 hours a day.
For other police matters call the Western Division police switchboard 01279 641 212. For emergencies it's still 999.
YOUTH FACILITIES
More youth clubs and a greater range of activities for young people were suggested by many residents.
Waltham Abbey currently has two youth centres. WAYPIC is at 38 Sun Street. The drop in centre is open most afternoons from 3- 6pm. Youth 200 is at Booker Road and open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:15- 9:45
PARKING
The district council has agreed to make 24 parking spaces in quaker Lane car park free of charge.
In March the council agreed that free parking on Saturdays should be investigated. A panel of councillors will start work on this after the May elections.
ENVIRONMENT AND RECYCLING
More than 90% of residents said that they put items out in the blue box. Over 80% of residents took advantage of Green Waste collection. However, few residents have a compost heap.
"The introduction of wheelie bins in Waltham Abbey and Chigwell has already increased the amount of recycling," said Phil Chadburn. "This will help to reduce the threat of incinerators being built to burn our waste."
