Magnificent Response to Residents' Survey
Following a magnificent response to our recent survey, here are details of how Alan Lion and the Lib Dems propose to address the issues raised:
Parking problems
In the Old Village, Station Road, the road beside HSBC bank, Chigwell Park around West Hatch High School and Turpins Lane/ Chigwell Road.
Make strong representations to Essex County Council Highways for a reassessment of the Old Village scheme and priority investigation of other sites for a traffic scheme or appropriate no waiting restrictions
Buses
Lobby Essex County Council Transportation for reassessment of a regular linking bus route from Debden Station to Woodford Station via Chigwell High Road.
West Hatch High School Admission Policy
Make another attempt to persuade the School Governing Board to change a policy that is widely seen as unjust and discriminatory. We shall organize a public campaign and petition across all the Chigwell wards for a change of policy to give Chigwell pupils preference over Redbridge pupils.
Waste collection & recycling
Promote a debate on the District Council for a criteria-based flexible approach to the provision of wheeled bins so that residents can have a bin size appropriate to their household size and the available storage away from the street frontage. Extensive research into other councils' collection systems has confirmed an association between high recycling rates and wheeled bins.
Alternate weekly collections of waste and recyclables reduces service costs.
More recycling and less residual waste reduces the risk of higher landfill tax penalties.
Both reduce the risk of higher Council Tax to fund the costs and penalties.
Highways
Lobby Essex County Council Highways for much better maintenance of roads, pavements and street lighting.
Lobby Essex County Council Highways for 20 MPH zones around all schools - in force when flashing amber lights are operating during drop-off and pick-up periods.
