LIBERAL Democrat councillors are urging residents to sign up to their five-point plan to tackle crime in the Epping Forest district.

The We can cut crime' campaign was launched in Buckhurst Hill on Saturday with the aim of "proposing effective action to tackle crime" and included five pledges, including to get more police on patrol in the area.

Buckhurst Hill East district councillor Peter Spencer said: "We're bringing the We can cut crime' campaign to Buckhurst Hill because we believe we need effective action in our area to tackle crime.

"Local people are fed up of living in fear of crime. We want to take effective steps to tackle crime by putting more police on patrol and taking action to take back our town centres making them safer for local families."

Other campaign pledges include allowing communities to close pubs and clubs that cause trouble, enforcing jail sentences, getting more compensation for victims and giving compulsory training and work for inmates To sign up to the campaign and read more about it, visit www.eflibdems.org.uk
