Councillors Peter Spencer and Ann Haigh are urging residents to use their local shops.

Thanks to the Lib Dems there will be no increase in Buckhurst Hill Parish Council tax this year. The Lib Dem-led council voted to keep the tax at last year`s level.

Conservatives reject calls to freeze council tax

The Lib Dems tried to get the District Council to freeze its tax rate too. But they were out-voted by the Conservatives. Instead of helping local residents, the Conservatives used their majority to vote through a 1.5% increase. Conservative-run Essex County Council also pushed through a council tax rise of 1.9%.

Call to help local shops

Councillors Ann Haigh and Peter Spencer have also spoken up on behalf of our local shopkeepers who face steep revaluation of their business rates. `We recommend them all to appeal,` they said, `and to claim special hardship dispensation.` `We also urge our residents to support our local shops as much as they can.`

Councillors Dev Dodeja, Gavin Chambers and Janice Curd also continue to press for a solution to the parking problems that greatly concern the shopkeepers near Roding Valley station.
