Lib Dem Campaign secures reopening of Post Office

Janet Whitehouse has thanked local residents for supporting her campaign to open Allnutts Post Office.

Last week Janet and Shanhaz Javid of Allnutts Stores had the latest in a series of meetings with the county council. At the end of the meeting Shanhaz and the county council signed a contract. As a result Allnutts Post Office will RE-OPEN later this year.

"This is a tremendous result for local residents. I had a very response to response to the petition. Many people wrote very powerful comments that much the how much the post office is missed," said Janet.

"It was a great blow in February when I heard from County Council that Essex County Council had said Allnutts Stores would not re-open as had been post office. We had been expecting talks to start in the New Year. As soon as I heard this I arranged a meeting at County Hall in Chelmsford.

"It was a useful meeting but the make many council required Shanhaz to make many changes before it was prepared to support re-opening. This includes a new shop front and changes to the internal layout of the store. However, Shanhaz very much wanted to re-open the the community office for the benefit of the community. We had further talks forward and county officers to find a way forward and I am delighted that by working together we have achieved this fantastic outcome.

"It is now up to all of us use the support Shanhaz and Allnutts Stores and to use the Post Office regularly when it re-opens in Autumn."
