Epping's Swaines Green safe

26 Sep 2005

Swaines Green - the land behind Lower Swaines, Coronation Hill and part of Shaftesbury Avenue in Epping - has finally received the protection the land deserves.

The Corporation of London (owners of Epping Forest) and Epping Town Council worked to buy the land with the help of the Friends of Swaines Green.

"This was only possible because of the money put in by the town council, and generous donations from local people raised by the Friends of Swaines Green. The effort put in by the Friends and Town Council over many years has been well worthwhile to protect the land from development and ensure it is managed for public enjoyment and wildlife value," said Epping town councillor Jon Whitehouse.

The organisations plan to work with the district council's Countrycare service to look after the land. The Lantern walk on Saturday 3 September was a great success.
