Epping forest Lib Dems Urge Council to Keep Planning Decision Local

30 Aug 2006

Liberal Democrat councillors are fighting plans that could reduce local people's influence on planning decisions where you live.

The council is discussing scrapping area plans subcommittees. Those who make crucial planning decision about where you live would no longer need to be those you voted for.

"At the moment the councillors who decide planning applications for your local area are drawn from your local district councillors. If the changes go ahead it will be a matter of random chance as to whether the councillors making decisions know our area or not," said Lib Dem Group Leader Councillor Jon Whitehouse.

Planning committees make many important decisions that affect residents including on controversial topics like the replacement of houses with blocks of flats.
