Caring for our High Street

3 Nov 2008

Bus passengers will soon benefit from new shelters on Epping High Street.

"We have chosen designs which will be more in keeping with Epping than the current ugly ones," said Lib Dem town councillor Rob Macrae. The shelters will replace those outside St John's Church on both sides of the street and should be in place in Autumn. Lib Dem councillors have asked for a bus shelter by the shops in Coopersale, following a request from residents. "We expect funding to become available next year," said district councillor Jon Whitehouse.

Local Liberal Democrat councillor Janet Whitehouse was joined by county and district council officers on an inspection of Epping High Street after she received complaints from residents that advertising signs and chairs were blocking parts of the pavement.

"I encouraged the officers to take a common sense approach - taking action where necessary, especially where the pavement is narrow, but not being heavy handed," said Janet.
