Big names back Lib Dems!

2 May 2005

With 3 full days of Election Campaigning left, many famous names have pledged their support for the Liberal Democrats. Here are what a few had to say:

Claire Rayner (journalist and broadcaster): "I simply don't trust labour any more. Principle has been sacrificed for power. But, at last, there is a real alternative."

Anita Roddick (founder of The Body Shop): "I'm desperate to be re-enchanted with politics. The lib Dems are showing me a pathway towards that."

Richard Dawkins (scientist): "Blair's use of the Tory bogeyman to frighten us off voting Lib Dem is as cynical and implausible as his case for the war."

Andy Kershaw (broadcaster): "I'm voting Lib Dem because they are the only party of any honesty, integrity and most importantly of any humanity."

Sandi Toksvig (comedian and broadcaster): "The big thing about Charles is that people really trust him. He's become a powerful force all over the country."

Germaine Greer (writer and broadcaster): "The Tories work on the worst in people. Labour treat everyone with contempt. I'm voting lib Dem because they believe in the best in people."

Honor Blackman (actress): "I support Charles Kennedy. He is a man of principle."

Yasmin Alibhai-Brown (journalist): "This immoral war will leave a devastating legacy. On immigration, the other parties are duplicitous while the Lib Dems are clear and positive."

Greg Dyke (former Director General of the BBC): "Charles Kennedy's strong stance against the war has rightly won him support across the country."

Brian Eno (musician, producer and artist): "For the health of our democracy we need a real opposition. The Liberal Democrats are currently the only hope for that."

Rosie Boycott (journalist): "The Liberal Democrats are the only party that represents genuine humanity in the current political spectrum."

Barry Norman (broadcaster): "Why am I voting Lib Dem? Because, unlike the other two parties, they are led by people I can trust."
