Liberal Democrats welcomed Baroness Scott of Needham market to Loughton on Friday to hear her speak about the work of the House of Lords.

Ros Scott, the Liberal Democrat spokesman on Local communities, spoke to members. about the history of the House of Lords and the work peers carry out Scrutinising legalisation. This was followed by a question and answer session.

Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Campaigner Councillor Ann Haigh said "The Liberal Democrats have a positive effect on revising legalisation passing through the House of Lords as well as holding the government to account. I raised a number of local issues with Baroness Scott."

On hearing the news that the Conservative-led County Council has underspent 18 million pounds of Essex residents' money and put it into their reserves, Baroness Scott said "At a time when most people are struggling to make ends meet, reserve building effectively takes money out of people's pockets. This is hardly a sign of a Conservative who wants to give people control over their own money."
