Essex Liberal Democrats are refusing to endorse Conservative proposals to reduce mobile library services throughout Essex. The proposal is to reduce the service to areas within a 2 mile radius of a static library.

In Buckhurst Hill this will effect the elderly and the disabled the most. Cllr Peter Spencer said "These proposals defeat the object of getting libraries out into the community. "

"At a time when the population is ageing, it is vital to preserve access to reading and learning for those who are unable get to static libraries," he added.

Liberal Democrats are concerned that this appears to be part of the County's cost cutting exercise which the Conservatives have said will not affect council services.
