All change for Highways

12.00.00am GMT Tue 13th Sep 2005

Our local district council no longer looks after Epping Forest's roads and pavements. Essex County Council has taken direct control of road maintenance and highways schemes.

Decisions affecting local roads are now taken in Harlow and Chelmsford, under the overall control of a Conservative county councillor from Maldon on the Essex coast.

"Obviously this reduces the ability of local people to influence decisions," said former Epping and Theydon Bois county councillor Janet Whitehouse. "Nevertheless I and my Liberal Democrat colleagues will continue to press the county council to pay more attention to our local roads and pavements and to respond more quickly to problems."
