Parking Review Update

12.00.00am GMT Mon 3rd Jan 2005

The timetable for introducing new parking arrangements in Epping has been delayed. Local traders asked for longer to respond with their views.

Residents' responses to the consultations have been considered carefully. as a result various changes have been made to the original proposals. The final stage is for the council to publish formal 'Traffic Regulation Orders' which local residents can support or lodge objections to.

Cllr Janet Whitehouse has asked the proposed one hour restriction in Centre Drive should be earlier so that it does not affect parents collecting young children after morning school.

"Unfortunately this has been a very lengthy exercise-partly because of the many different and conflicting views expressed by local people. Some people have directly opposing views so council officers and councillors are trying to strike a fair balance," said local councillor Jon Whitehouse.

STATION CAR PARK TO BE EXTENDED?

Tube bosses have revealed that they plan to extend the car park at Epping Station. London Underground expects to submit a planning application in the spring.

"This could be good news for commuters who arrive too late to find a parking space and for residents plagued by drivers parking in residential roads. However, it is also important that the interests of Woodland Grove residents and others living near the car park are protected," said local district councillor Jon Whitehouse. "I look forward to seeing and commenting on London Underground's detailed plans."
