Local Lib Dems survey tube users

January 17, 2008 7:00 AM

annstationLocal Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesperson Councillor Ann Haigh was joined by local campaigners outside tube stations across the district this morning carrying out a tube survey.

The Liberal Democrats are keen to find out the views of tube passengers particularly in light of the recent increases in transport prices. Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Councillor Ann Haigh, who was outside Buckhurst Hill Tube Station, is concerned that recent price fare hikes enforced by the Mayor of London and the closure of many of the ticket offices in Epping Forest will have a negative impact on public transport use.

Councillor Ann Haigh said "I want to know what the people of Epping Forest think about the state of the tube system. I want to know what their issues are as they travel to work, visit friends or go shopping. In a world-city like London a smooth running transport system is essential for residents.

"The Liberal Democrats are committed to fighting for reliable and affordable public transport. The price rises recently imposed by the Mayor are completely unacceptable if we want to encourage public transport use. The fare increases are no good for the environment and they are no good for the people of Epping Forest."

Residents who wish to contribute their views to Ann Haigh's survey can log on to www.eflibdems.org.uk.
