Council to press for road repairs

HIGHWAYS chiefs are being urged to repair "disgraceful" roads and pavements in parts of the district.

Essex County Council is to be pressed on the issue of outstanding repairs at a meeting between county council highways officers and Epping Forest District Council's civil engineering and maintenance portfolio holder councillor Andy Green.

Problems in Loughton and Buckhurst Hill were raised at Tuesday's council meeting when councillor Stephen Murray complained about two street lights that have not been working for a long time, and a stretch of pavement where pedestrians have to walk on planks of wood when it rains because the area floods.

advertisement Buckhurst Hill councillor Malcolm Woollard, directing his comments about potholes in his area to Mr Green, said: "If we complain to them (county council highways) we're usually fobbed off. I'm living in hope that you, as our direct representative, will be able to make our views known."

He said some of the potholes had been waiting to be filled for two years.

Mr Woollard added: "In Chelmsford a great many of their roads are in a far better condition that ours and they have stayed that way for a long time."
