Peter Fuller, Honorary President of Epping Forest Liberal Democrats, and local party members congratulate Councillor Ann Haigh on her selection as Liberal Democrat candidate at the next general election

Liberal Democrat members in Epping Forest constituency this week chose local councillor, Ann Haigh to challenge Eleanor Laing and the Conservatives at the next General election.

Ann Haigh, who has lived in Epping Forest for the past 39 years, is well known in the area and is district councillor representing Buckhurst Hill West. Ann is currently the chair of Epping Forest Children and Young Peoples Partnership - Management Board

Previously Ann was a county councillor for Buckhurst Hill Loughton South between 2001 and 2005 and Chairman of Epping Forest District Council in 2006/7.

Ann said: "I am delighted to have been chosen by the Lib Dem membership to fight for a better deal for our area.

"The Conservatives have taken our area for granted for too long. During the past two council by-elections [Loughton Alderton and Waltham Abbey Honey Lane] the Conservative vote has dropped, whilst the Lib Dem vote increased.

"I will fight for cleaner and safer streets, a better environment for all of us, more investment and more police on the streets.

"I have the passion and the enthusiasm to fight for our area, and I am determined to make a difference to people's lives"
